?What’s A Clean Fuel

What Makes Clean Fuel More Sustainable?

Clean fuels are liquid sources of energy for transportation made from a wide range of sources that produce little to no climate pollution.

Types Of Sustainable Transportation Fuel

Thanks to Washington’s new clean fuel law, it will be easier for cars, trucks, ships, and planes to substitute dirty, imported gas and diesel with:

Biogas from dairy manure

Renewable diesel from used cooking oils

Green hydrogen from splitting a water molecule

Biodiesel from soybeans & canola seeds

Ethanol from corn

Electricity from solar, wind, or hydropower

How Green Is My Gas?

Under the new law, all fuel types are assigned a “carbon intensity” score ranging from zero to 100 based on land use, water use, carbon emissions required to produce and transport the fuel, and tailpipe emissions.

For example, renewable electricity generated from solar, wind, hydro, green hydrogen, and ocean energy have a CI score of zero. Fossil fuel-based gasoline and diesel have a CI score of 100.
